Future Shop employees contributed over $4,500 this year. In the photo above, Bruce Colborne receives the 2007 pledgecards and a summary sheet with the impressive results from the Future Shop Employee Campaign Chair Sue Burk.
With the help of these contributions, the United Way has now surpassed the 42% level of the campaign.
We expect continued growth in the next couple of weeks as many of the recently announced campaign kickoffs begin to report their interim campaign figures.
Watch for more details on the Roddy Piper motivational talk at SCITS on Thursday, November 8, 2007, and of course, the premiere showing of The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens on The Friday Night, and Saturday afternoon.

The event raised over $4,500 and overall, Enbrdige will surpass last year's campaign totals.
The numbers are also looking good for TransAlta who report being at last year's total with a couple more special events to be held.

With the help of Bell Canada and a $2,400 contribution, we are still inching closer to the 40% mark of the campaign. Although overall growth in the campaign has slowed in terms of dollars reported, the level of activity in Sarnia-Lambton seems to be at an all time high.
We have had several more employee campaigns kickoff in the past few days, and have more yet this week. Just this morning, Gary Atkinson and I were at Reliance Home Comfort, (formerly known as Union Energy) to kick off their campaign. Last year, Reliance employees in Sarnia had by far and away the highest participation in Ontario with 74%. Congratulations Reliance.
And, at noon today, Bruce Colborne will visit with Cabot Canada Employees to help commence their campaign.
Both Cabot Canada and Reliance will match employee donations dollar for dollar.
In the photo above, from left to right is Tim Lozon Community Affairs Manager 519 of Bell Aliant, Gary Atkinson of the United Way and Chris Capes Operations Manager Sarnia - Chatham Bus/Data Team. Gary requested that we extend thanks to all the Sarnia Employee’s for their generosity and be assured the funds are greatly appreciated and will assist the local agencies. Thanks to all for your support!

I love this photo. This photo was submitted from an employee at the Point Edward Casino. This was one of many events they had to raise money for the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton. in the photo; Marc Colameco, Casino Manager at the Point Edward Casino managed to avoid the first pie thrown but takes the second one for the United Way. Table Games Department organized the Pie throw as part of their United Way campaign. Employees purchased pies to through at their managers and raised over $150 in the first hour.
We had many more employee campaigns kickoff this week, and I am really excited about how well the Education campaigns are running. We have had presentations to both of our Catholic French Language schools, and meetings with all of the principals of the Secondary Schools, and all are very supportive. Thank you to everybody who has helped so far within the education campaigns this year.
The campaign has raised $718,772 from 2,417 contributors.
We are also excited about the Canada Coast Guard announcement on Monday when they will reveal their final United Way campaign totals.

( 3 / 207 )The United Way campaign is closing in on 40% of the $1.84 Million goal.
In the photo above, INVISTA Canada employee, Scott Elviage, hams it up with his co-workers while dressing his sausages at the annual United Way Kickoff BBQ at INVISTA / Canada Commercial Services in Corunna. DuPont Canada employees who work at the site also participated in the BBQ to support the 2007 United Way Campaign.
Other employee campaigns that just recently kicked off wold include SNC Lavalin, Ethyl Canada, and TransAlta.
Follow up letters have all been mailed to donors in past years, but have not yet contributed this year. Already those returns are starting to come back in.
We are also planning our Risk Management Workshop that will take place on October 24, 2007. FOr more information, visit the United Way website at www.theunitedway.on.ca and click on Risk Management Workshop.

( 3 / 208 )How about the employee campaign at Canada Coast Guard??? The Employee Campaign team and all of the employees have really stepped up to the plate this year. Coast Guard Employees, with some help I think from Transport Canada Employees, have reached their goal this year, well ahead of last year, and are still not complete. The last figures I saw showed nearly $22,000. Great work.
In the photo above, 2007 Campaign Chair Steve Pilkey assists a Coast Guard employee tie down some balloons at the recent Community BBQ and Trunk Sale. Sun Life financial and all the Sarnia-Lambton agents sponsored the event hosted by the Coast Guard.
There has been so much activity in the campaign so far making this one of the busiest first six weeks of the campaign I can remember. All the activity early on should result in wrapping up the campaign earlier this year than in the past, and hopefully at the 100% level of our campaign thermometer.
An earlier wrap up would be nice, but I always say, "it doesn't really matter when we wrap up, as long as we wrap up at 100%!" Have a good weekend everybody, and check back often.

( 3 / 211 )Dow Chemicals Sarnia Site Leader Don Fysh serves one of many Dow Employees a burger at their employee campaign kickoff on Wednesday. Dow Chemical has already provided a corporate donation to the United Way and now the employees continue with their tradition of support.
Shell Canada also kicked off their employee campaign on Wednesday.
With all of these activities, plus a few others, we are now getting closer to the $700,000 level, and in fact now stand at $688,461.
I am excited to report that we are getting closer to announcing the world premiere showing of Mark McNabb's new film the Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens. We are very pleased to be involved again with Mark and what is reportedly his best picture yet. This is a family movie and I have heard there will be a formal announcement shortly about the Website, and the upcoming movie premiere. In the meantime, while I am obligated to secrecy, I might suggest those of you who are creative with Google just might get some early information. I'll leave it at that.

( 3 / 191 )With most of the Sunoco Employees campaign total now counted, the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has surpassed the first Half Million Dollars. Shown in the photo above, Imperial Oil Loaned Representative Bruce Colborne displays one of two huge cakes to celebrate the success of the 2007 Sunoco Campaign. Assisting Bruce with the cake is long time United Way friend and Sunoco Campaign Co-ordinator Nancy Faessen.
The next milestone we are aiming for is the 50% mark of the campaign which is $920,000.
Overall, the campaign is still running ahead of last year's pace but there is still plenty of work to do. Right now, we are hoping that the other industrial campaigns will hit last years level. So far, we are 1 for 1 in terms of successful employee campaigns.
Today, Dow Chemical will hold a kickoff BBQ, as will Shell Canada. NOVA Corunna, on the other hand, is winding down its employee campaign with a book sale on until 2:00 PM.

( 2.9 / 212 )While the official campaign total is still showing 25.3%, the campaign is actually far better off. Sunoco Employees wrapped up their campaign on Friday, and raised about $1,000 more this year than last, and still expect some last minute contributions to trickle in. Congratulations to all the Sunoco Campaign Team Members and donors. Shown above, Sunoco Campaign Co-Chair Amy Breathat thanks the Sunoco Team. When we add Sunoco totals into the campaign, we'll move to about 31%.
That was not the only good news this past week. Canada Coast Guard wrapped up their campaign on Thursday, and although the campaign volunteers are still counting their totals, it appears that they will double last years amount! Great Work!
Imperial Oil gave their first interim report, and will have $78,000 to add to our total to date which indicates that they are on track to reach last year's total amount as well.
Check back tomorrow afternoon when I report on the Dow Employees BBQ, the NOVA Corunna Book sale, and the Shell Canada Employees Kickoff BBQ.

( 3 / 194 )Just minutes ago, we returned from a visit with Chris Plain, Chief of the Aamjiwnaang Chippewas of Sarnia to accept a $5,000 donation. In the photo above, Steve Pilkey expresses his personal appreciation for this very generous contribution to the United Way on behalf of the 28 Funded Agencies of the United Way.
Tomorrow, we will get the closing figures from Canada Coast Guard, and on Friday, we will get the finals from Sunoco including the company match and all the special events revenue.
Paddy Roach, pictured above on the right said he hoped to get some interim figures from the Imperial Oil Employee campaign on Friday as well which should bring the campaign to well over the 30% mark. Keep posted!
