( 3 / 218 )My first day back from my last week of vacation has been eventful. There are lots of campaign activities and updates to hear about.
The campaign is pretty much in full gear now as the final meetings are taking place with the industry co-chairs.
Currently, the campaign is near 19% of the goal, pretty close to where we were at last year at this time.
Join us on Saturday September 1 for the Black vs White game at the SSEC. $2 to get in, and all goes to the United Way. We will have door prizes this year, as well as the usual 50/50 draw. Thanks to the Sarnia Sting for involving us again this year. Game time is 4:00 PM.
Thanks as well to Bob McMillan for the use of his Hot Rod for us to use during the Labour Day Parade on Monday, September 3, 2007. This is our opportunity to highlight Labour's participation in our campaign.
Once our campaign officially kicks off on September 18, 2007, I will have near daily updates on my blog. I also expect to have a few updates prior to the Day of Caring.

( 2.9 / 232 )We just announced our goal this morning. We are hoping to raise $1,840,000 this year. Our strategy will be to recruit 225 NET new donors. We believe that if we can replace the donors who currently work at some of the plants that have announced they are clsoing their Sarnia operations, (or even maintain them as some will remain in the area and retire), plus recruit 225 new donors from other sectors of our community, we should reach our objectives.
Special thanks goes out to The Bagel Factory, and all their customers. Together, nearly $3,000 was raised for the United Way during the August 10 Family Fun Day, and the July "a buck a dozen bagels" promotion.
Although we will be announcing this event next week, I wanted to give readers of Dave's Blog, and all Sarnia Sting fans the heads up that we will again be involved in the traditional Black vs. White game on September 1 at the SSEC. Game time is 4:00 PM. $2 gets you into the game plus gives you chances to win free door prizes. We also have another surprise or two planned. The Black vs White game is the first real opportunity Sarnia Sting fans will have to evaluate this year's team, while is also the last opportunity those players "on the bubble" have to impress the Sting coaching staff to win a spot on the team.

The Lambton Cattlemen donated the proceeds from their most recent Beef BBQ. We really appreciate the support from the Lambton Cattlemen and look forward to working with them again. Above, Lambton Cattlemen President Tim Fugard presents a cheque for $305 to Warden Jim Burns, and myself.
I don't remember when I have eating more bagels than I have this month. For the month of July, The Bagel Factory ran a promotion whereby the Bagel Factory donated one dollar for every dozen bagels sold. At the same time, The Bagel Factory hosted a draw sponsored by Bob Teahan from Teahan Home Hardware for a $900 BBQ. Tickets are available at The Bagel Factory, Beanzz at Lambton Mall, and the United Way office at 336-5452 ext. 7 The draw will take place at The Bagel Factory on London Road in Sarnia as part of a family Fun Day on August 11, 2007.
You may have noticed bumper stickers on many of the Sarnia Transit buses. As part of a new partnership between the United Way and Sarnia Transit, most of the buses have bumper stickers on the front and back bumper, and all have a list of United Way funded agencies inside the bus to help ensure those who need services, know where to get services.

( 3 / 239 )I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Fugard, President of the Lambton Cattlemen this week. The Lambton Cattlemen had a beef BBQ earlier this spring and donated all proceeds to the United Way. I look forward to working with the Cattlemen more in the future.
Thanks to Chuck Hall from the Co-Operators Inusrance in Grand Bend. Chuck and his staff ran a BBQ and donated the $500 to the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton. Chuck plans two more BBQs this summer; one to benefit Huron United Way, and the other to benefit London Middlesex United Way.
Tickets are going well for the bus trip to see the Blue Jays and the Yankees on Thursday, September 13, 2007 in Toronto. Warden Jim Burns told me today that there are just 12 tickets left. If you are interested in going, call Jim at 845-0809 ext. 325, or Susan Copley at 845-0809 ext. 302 to reserve your ticket.
Here is a great opportunity for Bagel lovers to help support the United Way. All this month, The Bagel Factory on London Road in Sarnia will donate $1 from every dozen bagels sold. Plus, Bob Teahen from Home Hardware Building Centre, also on London Road, is sponsoring a BBQ raffle. The $900 BBQ is on display at The Bagel Factory, and tickets can be purchased there, as well as Beans in the Bayside Mall, the United Way office on Christina St., or simply call our office at 336-5452. On Saturday, August 11, 2007, the Bagel Factory is holding a Family Fun Day with live music, games, and the draw for the BBQ will take place.

( 3 / 521 )June 15, 2007
Today marks the end of a busy week at the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton; three Fundraising BBQs, and a Board Meeting highlight the week.
On Monday, we met our 2007 Employee Campaign Chair from Imperial Oil, Susan Workman. The first of the three BBQs took place at NOVA St. Clair River Site on Tuesday, and to complete the day, the United Way Board met at 5:00 PM. A Venture Grant was approved that night for the Learning Disabilities, plus the 2007 goal was approved. (Typically, the United Way announces the goal in August).
We were back at Imperial Oil on Wednesday to meet NASCAR Canada Drivers Ron Beauchamp Jr. and Mark Dilley. In addition to the BBQ, Imperial Oil Employees took part in a draw for a chance to win tickets for the NASCAR Canada Race at Mosport this weekend.
Thursday's BBQ took place at NOVA Moore Site.

( 3.1 / 196 )Welcome to Dave's Blog.
On this site, you will read updates, campaign commentary, and even photos of the campaign of many workplace events. I will provide a behind the scenes look into the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton and specifically the fall campaign. I will take this opportunity to provide some recognition of employee campaigns and provide some ideas of what events have taken place at other businesses and companies that might work at yours.
Please, feel free to check back often as I plan frequent updates. Watch for daily updates when the campaign begins in mid September.
Dave
